We are writing to announce several significant and positive updates to the Africa’s Talking platform, including revised Terms of Service, a new billing and invoicing system and revised product request process. These changes are designed to simplify how you manage your services, provide greater cost savings, and offer a clearer, more efficient operational framework.
Key Upcoming Changes: 1. New Wallet-Based Billing & Monthly Usage Invoicing We are shifting to a wallet-based, usage-driven billing model, starting 1 September 2025: - All service charges (including usage, monthly maintenance, and setup fees) will be deducted directly from your Wallet. - Monthly maintenance fees (for short codes, USSD codes, numbers, etc.) will be automatically deducted from your Wallet on the 1st of each calendar month. - Instead of generating invoices upon top-up, you will now receive a single monthly invoice summarising actual usage for your accounting records. This is not a bill - payment will already have been deducted from your Wallet. - VAT will now apply to actual monthly consumption, not the topped up Wallet amount, improving tax accuracy and compliance.
2. Recurring Monthly Timelines To give you visibility and control, we’ve set the following schedule for maintenance fee deductions that repeats every month: - 19th of the month: Last day to cancel any services with a recurring maintenance fee that would be charged on the 1st of the next month. - 20th of the month: You’ll receive a notice showing all upcoming monthly maintenance fee charges due. - 1st of the month: Automatic deduction of applicable maintenance fees. For example, to avoid being charged on 1 September, be sure to cancel the service by 19 August. Otherwise, you’ll receive the notification of the upcoming deduction on 20 August.
3. Revised Service Activation Process To simplify and accelerate how you activate services with Africa’s Talking, we are transitioning from manual Service Order Forms to a self-service product requests process through your AT Dashboard. Once your request is approved, you will receive a digital Service Confirmation.
4. Updated Legal Terms and Service Activation Process We have updated our Terms of Service, effective 1 August 2025 to reflect these changes, including the new billing model, service confirmations, and wallet policies.
What You Need to Do - Review the Terms: Read the updated 2025 Terms of Service (https://tinyurl.com/2haemvnw) to fully understand these changes. - Assess Your Services: Cancel any services with recurring maintenance fees you don’t wish to renew. - Fund Your Wallet: Ensure it has sufficient balance before the first maintenance fee deduction on 1 September 2025. - Inform Your Team: Ensure finance and operational stakeholders are aware of the new billing process.
We are confident that these updates will provide you with a more powerful, predictable, and user-friendly platform. We're committed to making this transition smooth and beneficial for your business. Detailed guidance and support information will be shared throughout July.

What to Expect: We anticipate extremely minimal service disruption during this upgrade, with most clients experiencing no interruption at all. However, to ensure transparency, we want to inform you that in rare circumstances, some services may experience brief intermittent connectivity for up to a few hours as we complete the migration process.
